Helloooo! We finished the majority of our airstream and decided to head West.. So, naturally.. we hit Texas!
We first stopped in Houston to visit one of my girlfriends but our schedules weren't syncing up so we missed each other this time. No worries, there will be more times I'm sure. So, we stayed at an rv park called Rayford Crossing RV resort and oh my gosh, I can't wait to go back! It was super nice.. they had a cute little store, a very nice heated pool, big wide spots, and a baby deer that I fell madly in love with! I heard he lost his mama in the big flood and somehow ended up in the rv park.. I'm so glad because he is SO welcomed there!! His name is Ray and everyone loves on him, feeds him, and leaves water out for him regularly! He would come up to me and lick me for as long as I let him, it was so sweet! He also walked along side with the kids as they learned to ride their balance bikes! How cool?! I know.. I'm still amazed by that little deer. So, obviously.. this was my fav place to stay in Texas. SO FAR.
Ok, so besides playing with the deer, we checked out a few places in town but what stuck out the most to me was this planned area called "The Woodlands". Oh my gosh, it was beautiful. It had everything from shopping, dining, nice places to live, and lots of parks/green spaces for kids to run and play! It even had these little boats that went down this river that ran through the middle of the area. So so cute! I would highly recommend any fams to visit this place! I didn't get any pics of it unfortunately, because I left my camera at home to charge but they have a website you can check out if you're interested! >> thewoodslands.com
So from Houston, we went to Austin. Let me remind you, WE PLAN NOTHING. So, we pretty much just head in the general direction we're wanting to go, then call along the way to some places that look nice to us, and we stay wherever has a spot available! It's worked so far so we've just continued to do this. So, the first place in Austin we found was Mckinney Falls State Park which was beautifullll! They had an upper and a lower fall. The first day, we hiked both falls and it was perfect. The water was down so we could see a lot of the rocks which would normally be under the water. Then a whollleee lot of rain came and the falls were crazy rapid! It was really cool to see them both ways!
Then for the next week, we stayed at the koa (we needed full hookups which Mckinney falls didn't have) and it was brand new so everything was nice! The bathrooms were seriously nicer than the ones in our old home! They had a small kid's park that was eh, ok but I think they're building on in the near future. The spots there were also spacious BUT the stuff they laid their roads with.... they are going to have a HARD time with it. It was some sort of chemical that is already peeling and it stuck to the bottom of our shoes. It was in our airstream nonstop. That's really the only problem we had there! We spent Easter there and met some of THE SWEETEST PEOPLE EVER. I'm not lying when I say I fell in love with this family there! They had three kids like us.. living tiny- full time and goshhh they were so awesome! I miss them already!!! We spent everyday together. We did yoga together, had just had normal adult conversations (which is so nice to have while living on the road)! We also checked out an area called "The Domain" that had lots of shops, green space, nice living.. (I know, I have a pattern and I'm drawn to shopping) But if you're there... it's another place I'd highly recommend. The rest of Austin.. I wasn't really impressed with. I thought it would be way nicer and bigger of a downtown area but I just wasn't feeling it. There was nothing really to do. I mean, we went to the "i love you so much" sign and that was cute but really.. maybe I was missing something?? It just wasn't my fav.
From Austin, we decided to check out San Antonio... If I could go back, I wouldn't waste my time. The KOA was decent.. we didn't spend much time in the actual campground, but they did have a pool and a nice store that served breakfast every morning. That was nice. Oh, and they had a nice walking track... still not sure where it led to but I did notice was strange dudes riding their bikes along it.... The only really good thing in San Antonio was the fact that our friends we made in Austin... met us there for the day. :) We were super happy about that! We all went to the Riverwalk for the day, there wasn't much along it as far as unique shopping or anything like that. I was surprised. :/ Don't get me wrong, it was beautiful and a super neat concept but I just expected more. Oh and the homeless were pretty bad. Like, several parts of the riverwalk smelled like pee pee. Yes, I know.. UGH.. and it's just a shame that cities can't do anything about this.
Oh.. and The Alamo.. we did get to see that which was pretty cool to read the history behind it all. I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if we didn't have the kids with us. They weren't really into walking in an old hallow building reading bunches of signs soooo yea.. that didn't last too long. (go figure) but it was a neat piece of history to visit.
On another note... (you think I'm about to tell you something positive about San Antonio..??) We got robbed! Yes, the following day.. we went to the riverwalk again to try and give it a second chance annnddd when we got back to our truck.. Adam noticed the door handle was messed up. Then we realized one of our guns was missing along with my Honest Company diaper bag (that I was in love with.. had to have) oh annddd my makeup bag!! wtf?!! What kinda thief steals a makeup bag?! I sure hope someone's looking pretty right now! So yea.. we officially are haters of San Antonio. The cop who came to make a report told us that they're doing everything they can do to stop the burglaries and it's not even putting a dent in the crime. So yea, steer clear if ya want.. or not, and maybe you'll be lucky enough to not get robbed. -_-
Anyway, so from lovely San Antonio... we headed to Marfa..... Ohhhh Marfa, I'm gonna save that place for the next blog. (stay tuned)
Texas Part 2 coming soon!
